AASU Condemns Disruptive Behavior During Bol-Bom Yatra in Sonitpur

Concerns Raised Over Disruptive Activities

Tezpur, Aug 3: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in Sonitpur District has voiced strong objections regarding the disruptive actions of certain youths participating in the ‘Bol-Bom Yatra’ across the region. In a statement released on Saturday, AASU officials Debanjan Pathak and Sankar Das highlighted that while Upper Assam is grappling with severe flooding, some individuals are creating disturbances under the guise of this religious pilgrimage, which is traditionally observed during the holy month of Sawan (Shravan).

The student organization accused these individuals of prioritizing rowdy behavior over genuine worship of Lord Shiva, thereby causing considerable inconvenience to the public.

“Reports of lawlessness have emerged, including reckless driving on public roads, loud music and DJs, blatant disregard for traffic regulations, and obstruction of emergency services like ambulances. Additionally, there are allegations of engaging in anti-social behavior, such as consuming alcohol within sacred temple premises,” the statement noted.

AASU emphasized that such conduct tarnishes the social fabric and stated, “We respect all religious beliefs and practices. However, the mindless imitation of disruptive culture that undermines the peaceful essence of Shiva worship, violates law and order, and infringes on the rights of others during religious events is unacceptable.”

The organization has called upon the district administration and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Sonitpur to take decisive action against those responsible for these activities to uphold peace and harmony in the community.
