AAP's Gopal Rai Promises to 'Fill Jails' Amid Ongoing Protest Against CEC
Protest Against Chief Election Commissioner Intensifies
New Delhi: On Saturday, Gopal Rai, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), declared that the party intends to 'fill the jails' as they continue their protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This statement came during a demonstration held at the party's office in the capital.
Initially, AAP had planned to stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in collaboration with the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP). However, due to the denial of permission by the Delhi Police and increased security measures across the city, the protest was relocated to their office.
Rai, who led the protest, accused the government of creating a 'black emergency' in the country, asserting that the arrest of students and political figures would not deter their movement.
"We are prepared to go to jail and fill them, but our movement will persist," Rai stated emphatically.
He further criticized the detentions, claiming that protests would erupt nationwide, leading to overcrowded jails, and reminded everyone of the historical repercussions of authoritarian governance.
Demonstrators chanted slogans like 'Vote chor, gaddi chhor' and 'Loktantra mein tanashahi nahi chalegi' (No dictatorship in democracy).
Saurabh Bharadwaj, the head of AAP's Delhi unit, took to social media to report that several party members were being detained by the Delhi Police.
