Sanjay Singh's Call for Disqualification

On Friday, Sanjay Singh, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced plans to write to the Rajya Sabha Chairman, urging the disqualification of Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, and Sandeep Pathak from the Rajya Sabha. Singh expressed on social media that he would submit a letter requesting that these members be deemed ineligible for their positions due to their recent decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he argues is akin to voluntarily resigning from their party under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

A Major Setback for AAP

The AAP faced a significant blow on the same day when three of its Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, and Ashok Mittal, defected to the BJP during an event at the party's headquarters in Delhi, attended by Nitin Nabin. Earlier in the day, during a press conference, Chadha revealed that two-thirds of AAP's Rajya Sabha members had left the party and would be joining the BJP as a faction. He also mentioned that fellow MPs Harbhajan Singh and Swati Maliwal were also departing from AAP.

Chadha's Discontent with AAP

Chadha expressed his disillusionment with AAP, stating that the party he had nurtured with dedication for 15 years had strayed far from its principles and values. Recently, he was removed from his position as the Deputy Leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha, with Mittal taking over his role. He noted that AAP currently has ten MPs in the Rajya Sabha, and more than two-thirds of them are aligned with this new initiative. They have already submitted all necessary documents, including signed letters, to the Rajya Sabha Chairman.

Reflections on Party Loyalty

Criticizing the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, Chadha remarked that the party now operates for self-interest rather than for the nation. He shared his growing realization over the years that he was in the wrong party despite being the right person. Consequently, he decided to part ways with AAP to work more closely with the public. Another Rajya Sabha member, Sandeep Pathak, expressed his surprise at the current situation, stating that he had been with the party for a decade but felt compelled to leave.
