AAP Candidate Injured in Shooting Incident During Local Elections in Gujarat
Shooting Incident Involving AAP Candidate in Gujarat
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has reported that its candidate, Ajay, sustained injuries in a shooting incident while contesting local body elections in Una, Gujarat. Gopal Rai, an AAP legislator from Delhi, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and accused the police of failing to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the attack. In a post on social media, Rai condemned the police's inaction, labeling it as disgraceful.
Rai expressed his concerns, questioning whether Gujarat is facing elections or a reign of terror. He highlighted the shameful act of the police not registering an FIR following the life-threatening attack on AAP's candidate in Una. He pointed out the BJP's attempts to secure a victory without contest and their resort to violence to intimidate candidates. Rai asserted that the people of Gujarat would respond decisively to the BJP's 'bloody games' and politics of fear.
Isudan Gadhvi, the AAP president in Gujarat, shared images of Ajay receiving treatment in the hospital and accused the BJP of trying to win the Una Municipal Corporation elections unopposed. Gadhvi remarked that law and order in Gujarat has completely deteriorated, emphasizing that Ajaybhai, the AAP candidate, is currently hospitalized due to the shooting. He expressed pride in their candidate's bravery, stating that despite the BJP's numerous attempts to secure a one-sided victory in this municipal seat, the AAP candidate remains determined to fight.
Praveen Ramji visited the hospital to meet with the AAP candidate and inquire about his well-being.
Voting for the local body elections is scheduled for April 26, with the counting of votes set for April 28. The AAP's campaign included a 'Vijay Vishwas Sabha' held at Kiran Chowk in Puna Gam, Surat, attended by legislators Gopal Italia and state organization secretary Manoj Sorathia. Additionally, Brijraj Solanki, president of the AAP Gujarat Youth Wing, held a rally in Surendranagar.
