Allegations Against Delhi Government
The Delhi state president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Saurabh Bhardwaj, has released a video claiming that despite the Delhi government's assertions of strict enforcement under GRAP-IV, a brick factory is operating within the Kondli Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), emitting thick smoke. This video was made public following a site inspection conducted by Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar.
Concerns Raised by AAP
In the video, Bhardwaj stated, "Even during GRAP-IV, observe the smoke rising from the brick factory operating under the BJP government at the Kondli STP. Are the government and its ministers merely engaged in public relations and theatrics? Is the responsibility for protecting the citizens of Delhi and the air quality solely on the citizens and the opposition?" Meanwhile, after inspecting the brick factory within the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) premises, MLA Kuldeep Kumar asserted that an SSPL sludge management plant is functioning at that location.
Violation of Regulations
Kuldeep Kumar further alleged that despite the city-wide restrictions imposed under GRAP-IV, there is a blatant violation of rules at this site. He reprimanded the staff present and instructed them to shut down the plant immediately. In response, Delhi Minister Maninder Singh Sirsa stated on Monday that the strict enforcement measures under GRAP-IV have yielded positive results, although adverse weather conditions due to a western disturbance continue to affect the national capital.
Government's Response to Pollution
During a press conference, Sirsa mentioned that the weather in Delhi has been poor in recent days, necessitating the implementation of stringent restrictions. He noted that the restrictions under GRAP-IV have been in place for the past four days, and positive outcomes are being observed. Sirsa warned polluting industries that sealing actions against identified violators have already commenced.
