Aadhaar App Surpasses 40 Million Downloads: A Digital Identity Revolution
Aadhaar App's Remarkable Growth
New Delhi: The Aadhaar App, supported by the government, has achieved a significant milestone with over 40 million downloads. This surge indicates a rising trend in the use of digital identity services, as countless users engage with the platform to modify their Aadhaar information, manage security preferences, and access various services, as reported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Saturday.
The ministry highlighted that the app serves as a comprehensive digital hub for numerous Aadhaar-related functionalities, such as updating addresses from home, modifying mobile numbers and email addresses, biometric locking and unlocking, and downloading e-Aadhaar.
Since its inception, the Aadhaar App has successfully processed more than 1.165 million address updates, enabling users to keep their Aadhaar information current without needing to visit an enrollment or update center.
Additionally, the app has facilitated nearly 4.9 million mobile number updates, ensuring that users maintain accurate contact details associated with their Aadhaar.
Following the introduction of the email update feature on July 1, approximately 1.25 million email addresses have been added or modified via the app. The government announced that this service, which previously incurred a fee of Rs 75, will be available for free through the Aadhaar App until December 31, 2026.
The app has also seen a robust uptake of its privacy and security features, with residents utilizing the Biometric Lock/Unlock function over 19.1 million times. This feature allows Aadhaar holders to quickly lock or unlock their biometric data, adding an extra layer of security against potential misuse.
According to the ministry, the Aadhaar App aims to offer users a convenient, privacy-centric, and secure method to display, share, and verify their identity, thereby enhancing the quality of life under the Digital India Mission for a developed Bharat.
Earlier this month, the government reported that more than 250,000 residents updated their email addresses in Aadhaar within just two days of launching the new feature on the app.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it possible for residents to add or update their email addresses directly through the Aadhaar App, removing the necessity to visit an Aadhaar enrollment or update center.
