84-Year-Old Mother Donates Kidney to Save Her Daughter's Life in Jaipur
A Remarkable Act of Love
In a heartwarming story from Jaipur, an 84-year-old woman made the selfless decision to donate one of her kidneys to her 50-year-old daughter, who was battling chronic kidney disease (CKD). Health officials confirmed that the transplant was successfully performed by the Urology and Nephrology Department at SMS Medical College.
The elderly woman's health had been declining for several months, and without the transplant, her daughter faced a dire situation. During the search for a suitable donor, the mother stepped forward, expressing her willingness to help, stating, "If my life can save my daughter, I am ready to do it."
Dr. Dhananjay Agarwal from the Nephrology Department assessed the donor's mental readiness and physical health, finding her fit for the procedure. Subsequently, Dr. Neeraj Agarwal and his surgical team executed the complex transplant with great skill.
Dr. Neeraj Agarwal remarked on the rarity of organ donations at such an advanced age, highlighting that the donor's determination and health serve as a powerful reminder that age should not deter acts of kindness. Her decision is an inspiration for both medical professionals and society.
Post-surgery, the 84-year-old was moved to the Urology ICU and was discharged after three days of monitoring. Meanwhile, her daughter is recovering in the Nephrology Transplant ICU, with doctors reporting that the transplanted kidney is functioning well, and she is on track for a successful recovery.
Dr. Shivam Priyadarshi, the Head of Urology, noted that this case offers hope to CKD patients and their families, dispelling the notion that age is a barrier to organ donation. The medical team, including Dr. Vinay Malhotra and Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, praised the transplant team for their bravery and successful operation.
