Justice Served in Mayurbhanj

A court in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for the rape of a teenage girl. The judge of the POCSO court, Pratima Patro, also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the 30-year-old convict.


According to Special Public Prosecutor Abhin Kumar Patnaik, the incident occurred on January 16, 2022, when the 14-year-old girl was attacked while she was in the nearby forest for a bathroom break.


Following a complaint lodged by the girl's father at the Jashipur police station, the accused was apprehended. He faced charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court has also ordered the District Legal Services Authority to provide ₹7 lakh as compensation to the victim.
