Welcoming 2026: Spiritual Practices for the New Year
Embracing the New Year with Devotion
The arrival of 2026 is just around the corner, and excitement fills the air as people prepare to welcome the new year. This year's first day aligns with the sacred occasion of Guru Pradosh Vrat, a day dedicated to Lord Shiva, revered as the supreme deity. Special prayers and rituals will be conducted in honor of Lord Shiva on this significant day.
Astrologers suggest that worshipping Lord Shiva can help mitigate the adverse effects of malefic planets in one's astrological chart. Additionally, it invites the blessings of Lord Shani, the deity of justice, along with the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu. To receive Lord Shani's blessings, it is recommended to perform Shiva worship with the appropriate rituals on the new year's first day, along with specific remedies during the puja.
Recommended Remedies
On the first day of the new year, if feasible, take a dip in the Ganges River; if not, bathe using water mixed with Ganges water. Following this, offer water to the Sun God. Dressed in white, perform an anointing of Lord Shiva using Ganges water blended with black sesame seeds. This act is believed to please Lord Shani, the god of justice.
To alleviate mental stress, anoint Lord Shiva with milk during the puja on Guru Pradosh Vrat. Additionally, offer white fruits and sweets to him. This practice is said to attract the blessings of the Moon God for the devotee.
On this auspicious day, consider donating items associated with Saturn, such as black sesame seeds, black blankets, leather shoes, and slippers. This act is believed to earn the favor of Lord Shani, bringing his blessings upon the devotee.
For those facing financial challenges, it is advisable to worship Goddess Tulsi on the first day of the new year. After the puja, circumambulate the Tulsi plant and perform her aarti in the evening. This remedy is thought to enhance happiness and fortune.
