Understanding the Kanwar Yatra: Significance and Guidelines During Panchak

The Kanwar Yatra, dedicated to Lord Bhole Nath, has commenced, coinciding with the *Panchak* period. This article delves into the significance of the Yatra, the guidelines for pilgrims during *Panchak*, and the spiritual implications of unintentional mistakes. Astrologer Pandit Shridhar Shastri provides insights on how to navigate this sacred journey, emphasizing the importance of faith and devotion. Discover how pilgrims can ensure a smooth pilgrimage while adhering to traditional practices and the potential consequences of deliberate errors during this auspicious time.

The Start of Kanwar Yatra

The revered Kanwar Yatra, honoring Lord Bhole Nath, officially began on the *Pratipada Tithi* (first day) of the *Krishna Paksha* (waning moon) in the month of Shravan. The *Panchak* phase commenced on July 31, following the initiation of the Kanwar Yatra on July 30. Pilgrims must consider the implications of undertaking the Kanwar Yatra during *Panchak*. Scriptures indicate that bamboo items are not permitted during this period; thus, embarking on the journey with a new *Kanwar* can lead to various challenges. However, *Kanwariyas* (pilgrims) who fill their *Kanwars* with water and set off before *Panchak* begins can complete their pilgrimage without issues.

Guidelines for Pilgrims During Panchak

Astrologer Pandit Shridhar Shastri elaborates on the significance of bathing in the Ganges at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar and carrying holy water during *Panchak*. This period recurs every month, including Shravan, and prohibits travel with bamboo items for five days. Since the *Kanwar* is traditionally made from bamboo, carrying it during *Panchak* can lead to various complications. The *Panchak* phase started on July 31 and will last until 9:54 PM on August 4.

Seeking Forgiveness for Mistakes

**Forgiveness from Bhole Nath for Unintentional Mistakes**

Pandit Shastri reassures that *Kanwariyas* who began their journey before the *Panchak* period will not encounter difficulties. However, for those who inadvertently carry a *Kanwar* during this time, he suggests that chanting Bhole Nath's name sincerely can absolve any spiritual faults, allowing for a smooth pilgrimage.

Consequences of Intentional Errors

Deliberate errors may lead to obstacles.
Pandit Shridhar Shastri notes that while Bhole Nath forgives unintentional mistakes, those who knowingly undertake the Kanwar Yatra during *Panchak* may face challenges, including journey disruptions or damage to their *Kanwar*. Since the Yatra began on July 30, numerous devoted pilgrims have been arriving in Haridwar, carrying *Gangajal* and heading towards their destinations. Their steadfast faith in Bholenath and devotion are helping them navigate the restrictions of *Panchak*. Amidst chants of "Bam-Bam Bhole" and "Bol-Bam Bam," the *Kanwariyas* continue their journey from Haridwar.
