Introduction to Kunjal Kriya

To maintain a healthy body, various practices are undertaken. Today, we will discuss one such practice that is particularly beneficial for the stomach: Kunjal Kriya.

The Significance of Kunjal Kriya

Kunjal Kriya, also known as Jal Neti, is a powerful remedy for numerous ailments. This practice, part of the Shatkarmas, is what gives elephants their strength and enhances their immunity, allowing them to withstand injuries without suffering wounds.

Additionally, it strengthens the digestive system. Regular practice of Kunjal Kriya can delay the onset of aging, keeping the body agile and energetic. Ancient sages have prescribed six cleansing techniques, known as Shatkarmas, for purifying both the external and internal body, which include Dhautī, Vasti, Neti, Kunjal, Nauli, and Trataka.

How to Perform Kunjal Kriya

While Kunjal Kriya is not overly difficult, mastering the technique can be challenging for some, as it involves an unusual process. Those who become adept at it often find themselves free from diseases and sorrows. This powerful technique involves cleansing the stomach with water, effectively clearing the stomach and esophagus.

It is particularly suitable for individuals who cannot perform Dhautī. It is advisable to practice this under the guidance of a yoga instructor.

Steps to Perform Kunjal Kriya

Timing: This practice should be done in the morning after relieving oneself.

To begin, heat some pure water slightly in a container. Sit in a Kagasana position and drink enough water to fill your stomach. Once full, stand and bend forward at a 90-degree angle from the navel. Place your hand on your stomach and use two or three fingers of your right hand to reach the back of your tongue. Quickly rotate your fingers at the back of your tongue. This will induce vomiting, and as the water rises, remove your fingers to let the water flow out. Repeat this until all the water consumed is expelled. Finally, drink a glass of warm water and induce vomiting again.

Benefits of Kunjal Kriya

Regular practice of Kunjal Kriya significantly benefits the liver, heart, and intestines. It promotes a sense of well-being in both body and mind, keeping individuals cheerful and energetic.

This practice alleviates ailments caused by Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, resolving issues like indigestion, gas, and constipation, thus enhancing digestive power. It also helps in curing colds, coughs, asthma, and other respiratory issues, while promoting oral health.

Precautions to Consider

It is essential to ensure that the water used for Kunjal Kriya is neither too hot nor too cold, and no salt should be added. Maintain proper physical posture while performing the technique, bending forward to facilitate the easy expulsion of water.
