Introduction to Kunjal Kriya

To maintain a healthy body, various practices are employed. Today, we will discuss one such practice that is particularly beneficial for the stomach: Kunjal Kriya.

Benefits of Kunjal Kriya

Kunjal Kriya, also known as Jal Neti, is an effective remedy for numerous ailments. This technique, part of the Shatkarmas, is believed to enhance the strength and immunity of the body, similar to how elephants remain unscathed despite continuous blows.

Regular practice of Kunjal Kriya strengthens digestion, delays the onset of aging, and keeps the body agile and energetic. Ancient sages have outlined six cleansing techniques, known as Shatkarmas, for purifying both the external and internal body, which include Dhautī, Vasti, Neti, Kunjal, Nauli, and Trataka.

How to Perform Kunjal Kriya

While Kunjal Kriya is not overly complex, mastering the technique can be challenging for some. Those who become proficient in it often find themselves free from diseases and sorrows. This powerful practice involves cleansing the stomach with water, effectively clearing the digestive tract.

It is recommended to perform Kunjal Kriya under the guidance of a yoga instructor. The process should be done in the morning after relieving oneself.

To begin, warm some pure water in a container. Sit in a Kagasana position and drink a sufficient amount of water. Once your stomach is full, stand and bend forward at a 90-degree angle from your navel. Place your hand on your stomach and use two or three fingers of your right hand to reach the back of your tongue. Quickly rotate your fingers at the back of your tongue to induce vomiting. Allow the water to flow out when it rises. Repeat this process until all the ingested water is expelled. Finally, drink a glass of warm water and induce vomiting again.

Health Benefits of Kunjal Kriya

Regular practice of this technique significantly benefits the liver, heart, and intestines. It enhances overall well-being, keeping the mind and body in a state of happiness and vitality.

Kunjal Kriya helps eliminate ailments caused by Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, alleviating issues like indigestion, gas, and constipation, while improving digestive strength.

It also combats colds, coughs, asthma, and other respiratory issues, and is beneficial for oral health, addressing problems related to the mouth, tongue, and teeth.

Precautions to Consider

It is crucial to ensure that the water used for Kunjal Kriya is neither too hot nor too cold, and no salt should be added. Maintain a proper physical posture while performing the technique, bending forward to facilitate the easy expulsion of water.
