The Sacred Month of Shravan Begins

This year, the holy month of Shravan, dedicated to Lord Shiva, commences on July 30. This period is particularly noteworthy due to a rare celestial event, as both a solar and a lunar eclipse will occur during this month, a phenomenon not seen for decades. Astrologer Pandit Kalki Ram from Ayodhya notes that the first solar eclipse will take place on August 12, coinciding with Amavasya (New Moon), followed by a lunar eclipse on August 28, which aligns with Purnima (Full Moon). While these eclipses won't be visible in India, their astrological effects are believed to influence all zodiac signs.

Devotional Practices During Shravan

Chanting the Panchakshari Mantra
Pandit Kalki Ram emphasizes that Shravan is the ideal time for worshipping Lord Shiva. Devotees engage in *Jalabhishek* (ritual bathing) and *Rudrabhishek* on the *Shivling*, while also reciting the *Mahamrityunjaya Mantra* and the *Panchakshari Mantra*—"Om Namah Shivaya." It is believed that sincere worship during this month can fulfill desires and bring joy and prosperity.

Harnessing Positive Energy and Peace

Positive Energy and Mental Peace
According to Pandit Kalki Ram, rituals, mantra chanting, and charitable acts are especially significant during the eclipse phase. Engaging in spiritual practices at this time is said to cultivate positive energy and mental tranquility. On August 12, the Amavasya, it is auspicious to offer *Arghya* (ritual water offering) to the Sun God after a morning bath and recite the *Aditya Hridaya Stotra*. Additionally, lighting a lamp at the entrance of the home in the evening and reciting the *Shri Sukta* near a *Tulsi* (holy basil) plant is a cherished tradition.

The Power of Mantras

Om Hraum Jum Sah
Pandit Kalki Ram explains that chanting the mantra "Om Hraum Jum Sah" while worshipping Lord Shiva is highlighted in various religious texts as particularly effective. During this sacred time, devotees aim to earn Lord Shiva's blessings through fasting, charitable deeds, and maintaining a *Sattvic* (pure and wholesome) lifestyle.
