Understanding Karwa Chauth

The Karwa Chauth fast is a deeply meaningful tradition for married women. This festival is celebrated on the *Chaturthi* (fourth day) of the *Krishna Paksha* (waning moon phase) in the month of *Kartik* according to the Hindu calendar. On this day, women undertake a *nirjala* fast, which means fasting without water, while praying for their husbands' longevity, love in their marriages, and the overall happiness and prosperity of their families. Worship during this fast includes deities such as Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Karwa Mata, and the Moon God (*Chandra Dev*). Each ritual, from the morning *sargi* to the evening *arghya* (offering to the moon), holds its own significance. This year, there are inquiries about the presence of *Bhadra* (an inauspicious period) during Karwa Chauth. Let's explore the date of the fast, the auspicious timings for worship (*muhurta*), and the anticipated time for moonrise.

Karwa Chauth 2026 Date

When is Karwa Chauth in 2026?

As per the *Panchang* (Hindu calendar), the *Kartik Krishna Chaturthi* *tithi* will commence at 1:06 AM on October 29 and will end at 10:09 PM on the same day. Following the *Udaya Tithi* (the *tithi* that prevails at sunrise) and the customs linked to the festival, the Karwa Chauth fast will be observed on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

Impact of Bhadra on Karwa Chauth

Will Bhadra affect Karwa Chauth?

This year, *Bhadra* will not coincide with the worship period on Karwa Chauth. It is expected to start at 5:31 AM on October 28, 2026, and conclude at 4:27 AM on October 29. Therefore, the *sargi* and other religious practices can be carried out after *Bhadra* ends in the morning. There will be no concern regarding *Bhadra* interfering with the evening worship rituals.

Religious beliefs suggest that the *Bhadra Kaal* (the time governed by *Bhadra*) is not suitable for auspicious activities. Hence, it is recommended to refrain from performing *manglik* (auspicious) rituals or initiating new ventures during this time.
