Understanding Sawan Amavasya 2026

Date of Sawan Amavasya 2026: Sawan Amavasya is observed on the new moon day (Amavasya) during the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) of the Shravan month. This day is marked by lush greenery across the earth. In the morning, individuals engage in bathing and charitable acts to cleanse themselves of sins and earn spiritual rewards. Rituals such as Tarpan, Shraddha, Pind Daan, and acts of charity are performed to alleviate *Pitra Dosh* (ancestral issues) and honor ancestors. In the evening, lamps are lit to illuminate the path for ancestors returning to *Pitra Loka* (the realm of ancestors). This year, Sawan Amavasya aligns with the *Punya Nakshatra*. Let's explore the date, auspicious timings (*Muhurat*) for bathing and charity, and the appropriate time for *Tarpan*.
