Actor Randeep Hooda Joins Relief Efforts in Assam

Actor Randeep Hooda has called for assistance for those impacted by the floods in Assam, participating in a relief distribution event in the Sivasagar district where he provided vital supplies to affected families.

On Saturday, Hooda took part in a relief initiative organized by Global Sikhs in the Nimaijan region, encouraging the public to contribute in any way possible to support those in distress.

During the event, he distributed food rations and other essential items to flood victims, emphasizing the difficulties faced by families still stranded in various locations due to high floodwaters.

Hooda also visited Gurudwara Sahib in Sivasagar to pray for the recovery of those affected by the floods. He remarked, “If the floodwaters persist, it will create significant issues. The receding water leaves behind sludge... The Global Sikhs team has assessed the needs of the community. While people have enough dry rations, we are supplying them with additional necessities,” he stated. He noted that despite the floods occurring over a week ago, many families continue to struggle with the aftermath. “The water remains quite deep. It has been ten days since the flooding began, yet numerous families are still trapped in various locations,” he added.

Addressing the dangers posed by stagnant water and mud-filled homes, Hooda warned, “Many residences are inundated with mud, and prolonged stagnant water increases the risk of disease. It is crucial for the water to drain swiftly.” As part of the relief efforts, he also provided meals through langar at the Sivasagar railway station, where many flood-affected families had gathered from nearby areas.

“This is the Sivasagar railway station, and numerous affected families have arrived here from surrounding regions. We prepare meals and deliver them daily for the past week,” he explained. “Humanity transcends everything. I have collaborated with the Global Sikhs team for several years, and their groundwork is commendable.”

Regarding ongoing relief initiatives, Hooda mentioned that the team is assembling kits with essential items for the affected families. “The team has conducted extensive research on their needs, primarily focusing on immediate relief for daily necessities such as food, sleeping arrangements, mattresses, tarpaulins, and basic hygiene products,” he noted.

As reported by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the floods have claimed 82 lives in the state thus far, with over 192,000 individuals affected across five districts, according to the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System's report dated July 31.
