Pausha Putrada Ekadashi 2025: Dates, Rituals, and Significance
Pausha Putrada Ekadashi 2025 Date
The Date for Pausha Putrada Ekadashi: Every year, the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi fast is celebrated on the Ekadashi Tithi during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of the Pausha month. This year, however, the fast spans two days, with Hari Vasar extending until after sunrise on the second day. This has led to confusion regarding whether to observe the fast on December 30 or 31. It is essential to clarify when householders and Vaishnavs should partake in this observance.
Determining the Correct Date: The calendar indicates that when the Ekadashi Tithi lasts beyond sunrise on both days, the fast is considered a two-day event. This is the source of the current confusion. The Paush Shukla Ekadashi is observed from 7:50 AM on December 30 until 5:00 AM on December 31. Although the Ekadashi begins on December 30, Hari Vasar concludes at 10:12 AM on December 31. Therefore, householders will fast on December 30, while Vaishnavs will observe it on December 31.
Muhurta for December 30: On December 30, householders will observe the Paush Putrada Ekadashi fast during Ravi Yoga, which lasts from 7:13 AM to 3:58 AM the following day. Siddha Yoga and Bharani Nakshatra will also be present. Worship of Lord Vishnu can be performed during the Chara-Samanya Muhurta from 9:49 AM to 11:06 AM and the Labh-Unnati Muhurta from 11:06 AM to 12:24 PM. The Brahma Muhurta is from 5:24 AM to 6:19 AM, and the Abhijit Muhurta is from 12:03 PM to 12:44 PM.
Muhurta for December 31: For those fasting on December 31, worship of Lord Vishnu will take place during Sadhy Yoga, Krittika Nakshatra, and Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, which is active throughout the day. The Brahma Muhurta remains from 5:24 AM to 6:19 AM, while the Labh-Unnati Muhurta for worship is from 7:14 AM to 8:31 AM, and the Amrit-Sarvottam Muhurta is from 8:31 AM to 9:49 AM.
Breaking the Fast: Householders can conclude their Ekadashi fast on December 31 in the afternoon, with the time for breaking the fast set between 1:26 PM and 3:31 PM. Vaishnavs will break their fast on January 1, 2026, after sunrise, with the time ranging from 7:14 AM to 9:18 AM.
Rahukaal Timing: On December 30, the Rahukaal period for Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is from 2:59 PM to 4:17 PM, and again from 6:28 PM until 5:00 AM the next day. On December 31, Rahukaal occurs from 12:24 PM to 1:42 PM.
