Param's Musical Journey: Embracing Authenticity and Vulnerability
Discovering Her Passion for Music
At just 19, Param is still navigating her path, yet one thing is clear: music has always felt like her true calling. "It was a simple life, devoid of formal training, but the people around me recognized my voice, which boosted my confidence from an early age," she shares. Her entry into the music scene was organic, gradually immersing herself in the culture. "I began attending cyphers and surrounding myself with musicians, and that experience shifted everything for me," she recalls.
The Breakthrough with 'That Girl'
Her breakout track, 'That Girl,' unexpectedly thrust her into the limelight. For Param, the experience was surreal. "I was so new to it all that I didn’t know what to expect. I kept checking my phone for reactions, and it felt unreal," she reflects.
This experience taught her the importance of authenticity. "When something is genuine, it resonates. I wasn’t trying to conform; I was simply being myself, and that’s what connected with people," she explains.
Navigating the Pressures of Success
However, with viral success comes pressure. The urge to replicate that initial success can be overwhelming. Param admits, "It’s natural to feel that pressure, but I try not to dwell on it too much."
Her subsequent release, 'Diary,' showcases her evolution as an artist. This softer, more introspective track embraces vulnerability. "It was a different kind of song, much quieter, and I had to trust that it was okay to be different," she states, emphasizing that music isn’t a competition.
Exploring Personal Themes in Her Music
Param draws inspiration from her personal experiences. "Some feelings are too intimate to express openly; you can only confide in yourself," she explains. "I wanted to capture those small, quiet emotions that linger, like first love and growing up." She acknowledges that showing vulnerability requires courage.
Not every release meets expectations, and Param is honest about this reality. "It can feel disheartening when something doesn’t resonate as you hoped. But I view it as part of the journey. Not everything is meant for everyone, and that’s perfectly fine," she adds.
Finding Her Identity Amidst Comparisons
Being recognized at such a young age has led to comparisons with established Punjabi artists. While she appreciates the compliment, she understands the pressure it brings. "At 19, having expectations placed on you makes finding your identity challenging. I’m still discovering my space in this industry," she admits.
Her latest single, 'IDC,' is a vibrant anthem celebrating youth and freedom. "IDC is about releasing expectations and living life on your own terms. I aimed to present a fresh female perspective on themes of self-expression and liberation," she explains.
Staying True to Her Roots
Throughout her journey, Param remains connected to her roots. "Everything I am stems from Moga, my family, and my community. Punjab is not just my origin; it influences the essence of my music," she shares.
Looking ahead, Param is in no rush to define her future. "I aspire to be an artist whom people trust, creating authentic music that resonates. I don’t want to confine myself to a single sound; I just want to remain true to myself and see where that leads me," she concludes.
