Naba Jaubana Darshan 2026 Today

Today, July 15, marks the celebration of 'Naba Jaubana Darshan' at the renowned Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, in anticipation of the grand Rath Yatra festival. This significant event allows devotees to witness Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra in their youthful forms for the first time after the 'Snana Purnima' bathing festival. On this day, thousands of devotees gather in Puri to glimpse the divine deities. Following today's Naba Jaubana Darshan, the much-anticipated Rath Yatra will begin tomorrow, July 16, and conclude on Monday, July 27. Let's delve into the importance of Naba Jaubana Darshan...

Understanding Naba Jaubana Darshan

What is Naba Jaubana Darshan?
During 'Snana Purnima', which occurs on Jyeshtha Purnima, a grand ceremonial bath (*Mahabhisheka*) is performed for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra using holy water from 108 golden pitchers. It is believed that the deities experience a fever (*Anasara*) after this special bath. They then rest in a designated chamber within the temple for about 15 days, during which public viewing is not permitted. During this time, 'Daitapati' servitors care for the deities by administering herbal remedies, offering special *Bhog* (ritual food), and providing necessary attention. Once the deities recover, they are dressed in new garments and ornaments, appearing in their rejuvenated forms. This initial sighting is referred to as 'Naba Jaubana Darshan' and is considered a highly auspicious occasion, symbolizing the deities' return to their devotees after regaining their health.

The Importance of Naba Jaubana Darshan

The Most Significant Viewing Before Rath Yatra
On the day following Naba Jaubana Darshan—July 16—the deities will board three grand chariots to journey to the Gundicha Temple, their aunt's residence. This viewing, occurring just before the Rath Yatra, is deemed exceptionally auspicious and rare. It is believed that sincere prayers offered on this day attract the special blessings of Lord Jagannath and fulfill the wishes of the devotees.
