As the Kedarnath pilgrimage approaches, preparations are being tightened. The authorities have made it clear that horses and mules, essential for the journey, must be insured, fit, and registered. No operators will be permitted to use these animals without meeting these requirements.

Maha Abhiyan Launching on February 26

The Animal Husbandry Department is set to initiate a significant campaign on February 26. This initiative aims to complete health check-ups, insurance, and registration for all horses and mules about six weeks before the pilgrimage begins, ensuring a smooth and safe experience. Special camps will be held until Holi, with two camps operating daily to facilitate the process for livestock owners. The administration's objective is to achieve full verification and insurance of all animals prior to the pilgrimage.

Online Insurance Payments

This year, all insurance premiums must be paid online, with cash transactions banned at the camps. This move is intended to enhance transparency and prevent irregularities. It has been emphasized that no animal will be allowed on the pilgrimage route without proper documentation and proof of online payment. Veterinary Officer Dr. Rajiv Goyal noted that many pilgrims depend on horses and mules for the challenging ascent from Gaurikund to the shrine, highlighting the importance of ensuring these animals are healthy and insured. He urged animal owners to attend the camps promptly to complete necessary procedures for a safe pilgrimage.
