Overview of Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026

Start Date of Rath Yatra 2026: The renowned Rath Yatra in Puri, celebrated annually, kicks off on the *Dwitiya Tithi* (second day) of the *Shukla Paksha* (waxing moon phase) in the month of *Ashadha*. On this auspicious day, Lord Jagannath, accompanied by his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra, embarks on a journey in grand chariots to visit their aunt's residence. They remain there for five days before commencing their return journey, known as the *Ulti Yatra*, the next day. This entire pilgrimage lasts for nine days, with extensive preparations taking place beforehand. Pilgrims from across India and beyond flock to Puri, Odisha, to partake in this significant event.

According to the *Panchang* (Hindu calendar), the *Dwitiya Tithi* of *Ashadha Shukla Paksha* begins at 11:50 AM on Wednesday, July 15, and lasts until 8:52 AM on Thursday, July 16. Following the *Udayatithi* convention (which observes the date based on sunrise), the *Ashadha Shukla Dwitiya* is recognized on July 16. Auspicious Yogas for Rath Yatra

**Rath Yatra Under Auspicious Yogas**

Chariot Procession Details

**Chariots of the Deities**
The divine siblings will travel in three chariots named *Nandighosha*, *Taladhwaja*, and *Darpadalan*. On the second day of the bright fortnight in the month of Ashadha, Lord Jagannath will be placed on the grand chariot *Nandighosha*, while Balabhadra will ride *Taladhwaja* and Subhadra will be on *Darpadalan*. The traditional chariot procession will then begin, with the chariots being pulled by thick ropes. These massive chariots will be taken to the Gundicha Temple, where the siblings will reside for five days.

On *Hera Panchami*, Goddess Lakshmi visits Lord Jagannath, and specific rituals are conducted. Afterward, the return journey, known as *Bahuda Yatra*, begins, during which the chariots are pulled back to the Jagannath Temple.

Conclusion of the Rath Yatra

**Final Rituals of the Rath Yatra**
