Create Your Own Body Polishing Soap

DIY Body Polishing Soap for Glowing Skin: Over time, layers of dirt, grime, and tanning can accumulate on areas like the neck, elbows, and knees, especially during the summer and monsoon seasons due to increased sweating. While many commercial products promise to cleanse these areas, they often fall short. Instead, consider crafting a body polishing soap at home for a mere cost of ₹5 to ₹10.

Poonam Devnani, a popular content creator, recently shared a simple recipe for this soap. It effectively cleanses both your face and body, eliminates dead skin, and provides a natural glow that will make you forget about pricey body washes. Let’s dive into the preparation!

This soap not only cleanses but also rejuvenates your skin, giving it a radiant appearance that rivals expensive alternatives.
Ingredients Needed:
Chana Dal (Split Bengal Gram): 2 tablespoons (for deep cleansing)
Masoor Dal (Red Lentils): 2 tablespoons (for tan removal)
Rice: 2 tablespoons (for skin tightening)
Rose petals: A handful (for fragrance and freshness)
Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth): 1.5 tablespoons (to manage excess oil)
Mulethi Powder (Licorice Root Powder): 1 tablespoon (to diminish pigmentation)
Glycerin soap base: 200 grams (or Pears soap)

Step 1: Crafting the Ubtan Powder
Begin by lightly roasting 2 tablespoons of Chana Dal in a pan, which serves to deeply cleanse the skin. If Chana Dal is unavailable, you can substitute it with lightly roasted gram flour (besan). Next, roast 2 tablespoons of red lentils (masoor dal), which work as a natural exfoliant.

Now, add 2 tablespoons of rice. Before using any lentils or rice, ensure they are thoroughly wiped with a damp cloth to maintain hygiene. Rice helps exfoliate the skin and unclogs pores. Combine these three ingredients with rose petals, Fuller's earth (Multani mitti), and licorice root powder (mulethi powder) in a blender and grind them into a fine powder. Your special powder is now ready.

Step 2: Preparing the Soap Base
Take 200 grams of glycerin soap base and chop it into small pieces. If you lack a soap base, Pears soap can be used as an alternative, as glycerin keeps the skin soft post-bathing. Heat water in a pan and place another vessel over it (using the double boiler method) to melt the soap base with steam.

Important: Avoid direct flame.

Once the soap has melted completely, turn off the heat and gradually incorporate the prepared powder, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Pour the mixture into a soap mold or a lightly greased disposable paper teacup with coconut oil. Be patient; the soap is soft, so allow it to set for 3–4 hours or until the next day before removing it from the mold.

How to Use:
This soap can last for a month. Use it daily while bathing on your neck, face, and entire body. Gently massage in a circular motion for 2 minutes before rinsing off with water. You will see noticeable improvements in your skin after just one use. A helpful tip: Although it contains no harmful ingredients, to prolong its shelf life, keep one bar in the bathroom and store the rest in the refrigerator.
