Discover the Crunchy Delight of Ragi Chips

When the urge for a crunchy snack strikes, potato chips often come to mind. However, many commercially available chips are high in oil and calories, which can lead to weight gain. In such situations, ragi chips emerge as a fantastic and nutritious substitute.

Ragi, or finger millet, is packed with fiber, calcium, iron, and other vital nutrients, making it an excellent addition to a balanced diet. One of the best aspects of ragi chips is that they can be made at home with minimal oil. They can also be enhanced nutritionally by baking or air-frying. These chips are not only tasty but also help you stay satiated for longer.
Here's how to make Ragi Chips.

What ingredients are used in ragi chips?
Barley flour, chana dal, moong dal, fenugreek, asafoetida, garam masala, vinegar, baking soda, buttermilk
Wheat flour, refined flour (maida), semolina (sooji), cumin, coriander, chili, salt, ghee, milk
Corn flour, pearl millet (bajra) flour, oats, fennel seeds, ginger, black pepper, sugar, butter, yogurt
Ragi flour, rice flour, gram flour (besan), sesame seeds, turmeric, red chili, salt, oil, water

Ingredients Needed
1 cup ragi flour
2 tablespoons rice flour
1 tablespoon gram flour (besan) (optional)
1 teaspoon sesame seeds or carom seeds (ajwain)
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ teaspoon red chili powder
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil or coconut oil
Water as needed

Preparation Steps
Begin by mixing the ragi flour, rice flour, gram flour, sesame seeds or carom seeds, turmeric, red chili, and salt in a large bowl. Incorporate the oil, then gradually add water to form a dough that is soft yet firm. Divide the dough into smaller pieces, roll each piece thinly, and cut into your desired shapes—triangles, squares, or strips.

Baking Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180°C. Arrange the chips on a baking tray and lightly brush them with oil. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, flipping them halfway through. Alternatively, set your air fryer to 180°C and air-fry the chips for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket midway. Once cooled, store the chips in an airtight container and enjoy them as a healthy snack with hung curd, mint chutney, or tomato salsa.

Why Choose Ragi Chips?
Ragi is high in fiber, which helps you feel full longer. It also has a low glycemic index, aiding in blood sugar regulation. Furthermore, it is a good source of calcium and iron.
