What is Cyclosporiasis?
Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal disorder caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. Unlike bacterial infections, Cyclospora cannot be transmitted directly from person to person, as it requires time in the environment to become infectious.

However, Mexico's Health Ministry reports that its investigation has not found evidence linking the outbreak to the country. So far, no food samples from the facility have tested positive for Cyclospora, highlighting the difficulty in pinpointing the exact source. Treatment for Cyclospora infection typically involves the antibiotic trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX), which is very effective when administered promptly.
