Dietary Recommendations for Liver Health
According to Ayurvedic expert Dr. Diksha Bhavsar, certain foods can help cleanse the liver effectively.
Lemon: In Ayurveda, lemon is known for its cleansing properties and ability to enhance bile production. Rich in vitamin C, it protects the liver from damage and strengthens the immune system. Drinking warm water with lemon in the morning is beneficial.
Turmeric and Black Pepper: Turmeric contains curcumin, which reduces inflammation and oxidative stress, protecting the liver from toxins and improving bile flow. Black pepper enhances the effects of turmeric. Mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric with a pinch of black pepper in warm water, milk, honey, or soup.
Coriander: Coriander helps eliminate toxins, improves digestion, and protects liver cells. Drinking coriander tea or adding coriander leaves to vegetables and curries is recommended.
Ginger and Amla: Ginger boosts digestion, increases blood circulation, and helps expel toxins from the body. It also protects against fatty liver disease. Ginger tea or consuming ginger with honey after meals is advised. Amla, rich in vitamin C, cleanses the liver and enhances immunity; it can be consumed as a fruit, jam, or powder.
Beetroot and Carrot: These vegetables contain betalains and nitrates that reduce inflammation and assist in liver cleansing. Raw beetroot can be added to salads or juices, while carrots, rich in beta-carotene and flavonoids, improve liver function.
Green Tea: Green tea is beneficial for liver health and helps prevent fatty liver disease. It can be consumed on an empty stomach or an hour after meals.
