While PAN cards are generally issued to individuals over 18, parents can also apply for a PAN card for their children. Steps to Apply for a Child's PAN Card

If you plan to invest in mutual funds, stocks, or fixed deposits under your child's name, obtaining a PAN card is essential. It also facilitates access to various government schemes like the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. The application process for a child's PAN card is straightforward and can be completed online from the comfort of your home for a fee of just ₹107, provided you have the required documents ready.


Required Documents for Application

To successfully apply for a child's PAN card, you will need to gather the following documents in PDF or JPEG format:


1. Child's Birth Certificate: This document is crucial as it verifies the child's age.


2. Child's Aadhaar Card: This is mandatory for the online application process.


3. Parent's Aadhaar Card: Either the mother or father's Aadhaar card is needed for identity and address verification.


4. Guardian's Signature: The application must be signed by a parent since the applicant is a minor.


5. Two Passport-Sized Photos: A photo of the child is required, although it will not appear on the PAN card until the child turns 18.


Application Process for a Child's PAN Card

Step 1: Go to the official NSDL website and select 'Apply Online'.


Step 2: Choose 'New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)' and select 'Individual' under the Category section.


Step 3: Fill in your child's details, including selecting 'Kumari' or 'Shri' as the Title, and provide their name, date of birth, email, and mobile number. A 'Token Number' will be generated; make sure to note it down.


Step 4: When prompted about the applicant being a 'Minor', select 'Yes' and fill in the details of the 'Representative Assessee' (the parent).


Step 5: Upload the required documents, including the Birth Certificate and Aadhaar cards of both the child and the parent.


Step 6: Pay the application fee of ₹107 via Net Banking or Debit Card.


Step 7: Complete the e-KYC process using Aadhaar with an OTP as the guardian.


Step 8: Finally, download the acknowledgment receipt.
