Unlike many Hindu rituals that occur at dawn, the idol installation is performed in the afternoon, as it is believed that Lord Ganesha was born during this time, making it particularly auspicious.

Rituals for Ganesh Installation and Worship

Steps for Installation and Puja
Begin the day with a bath and wear fresh or clean attire. Clean the worship area thoroughly and set up a wooden platform (chowki) facing either North or East. Cover the platform with a red or yellow cloth, draw a Swastika symbol, and place *Akshat* (unbroken rice grains) in the center for the idol.

Hold water, *Akshat*, and a flower in your right hand while stating your *Sankalp* (intention). Release the water afterward.

During the auspicious time (*Muhurat*), place the idol on the *Akshat*. Sprinkle *Ganga jal* (holy water) over the idol and recite the mantra "Om Gam Ganapataye Namah." Position a copper *kalash* (pot) filled with water, a coin, a betel nut, mango leaves, and a coconut next to the idol.

Apply a *tilak* of sandalwood paste and *roli* (vermilion). Offering *akshat*, *mauli* thread, flowers, and *Durva* grass (preferably with 21 blades) is considered auspicious. If available, a red hibiscus flower can also be included. Light a *ghee* lamp and incense afterward.

Offer *bhog* (sacred food) consisting of *panchmeva* (a mix of five dry fruits), rock sugar (*mishri*), fruits, and 21 *modaks* or *laddus*. Share stories related to Ganesh Chaturthi and the *Syamantaka Mani*. Conclude the ritual with the *Aarti* of Lord Ganesha.

Perform the *Aarti* twice daily, in the morning and evening, for the duration of the Lord's stay in your home, treating him as an esteemed guest.
