A Surprising Musical Transformation

“Na mein samjha, na mein jaana… Jo bhi tanne mere te kaha hai oh, Babita!”

Imagine telling Farhan Akhtar back in 2011 that his smooth Spanish hit Senorita would eventually be reinterpreted with an acoustic guitar and a Haryanvi flair. It would have likely elicited a chuckle from him. Yet, here we are today.

After a long session recording an acoustic version of a new original track, self-taught artist Vishal, known as Bodh, along with his mixing engineer, decided to take a break. While strumming his guitar, he began to improvise. In no time, the vibrant flamenco beats of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’s beloved Senorita transformed into a clever, acoustic Haryanvi version featuring an unexpected star: Babita.

The Birth of Babita

“It was actually my friend's suggestion,” Bodh recalls with a laugh. “Initially, I hesitated to share it because the Haryanvi lyrics weren’t perfectly accurate, and the chords were off. But he insisted, ‘Let’s just post it for fun; you can remove it later.’ So, I agreed. That’s how Senorita became Babita.

He never did delete it. The clip quickly gained traction online, garnering over 15 million views and more than 1 million likes as audiences embraced the humorous regional twist.

Bollywood's Endorsement

The pivotal moment arrived when Bollywood icons Farhan Akhtar, the original singer of the 2011 track, and Randeep Hooda shared the video on their social media accounts. “That’s when I realized, ‘Okay, this is really taking off,’” he admits.

A Unique Journey to Music

Bodh’s rise to fame is anything but typical. Before he began reinterpreting Bollywood hits, he was on a path toward a career in forensic science.

His musical journey began quietly in childhood, starting with a toy keyboard, singing in school, and eventually picking up the acoustic guitar in high school. However, the real turning point came during his internship at a forensics lab.

“While working there, I realized… I need to focus on my music, especially songwriting and creating the sounds I love,” Bodh reflects. He spent the following years juggling day jobs with late-night songwriting, perfecting his skills until 2024, when he decided to pursue music full-time.

Family and Friends' Reactions

For his family and friends, witnessing a casual jam session go viral was surreal. “My family is actually more thrilled than I am!” he laughs. “Things are calming down now, but yes, people around me have definitely started treating me with more respect and kindness lately.”

Beyond the Viral Sensation

While Babita has brought him into the spotlight, Bodh sees himself primarily as an exploratory musician. His musical influences range from traditional nirgun folk to indie R&B, street performances, and country rock.

His forthcoming single, titled Kaache Katt Rhe, is a playful Haryanvi satire set against a country-rock backdrop.

This cover serves as a testament to the unpredictable nature of success, transforming a simple studio moment into a significant career milestone—and it’s safe to say that the vibe has officially changed. Hasta la vista, SenoritaBabita is now the star of the playlist.
