A Unique Collaboration in Film

Filmmakers Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap have joined forces to unveil Bobby Beauty Parlour, a poignant short film set to premiere during Friendship Week.

Under the direction of Shashwat Dwivedi, Bobby Beauty Parlour tells the story of childhood friends Eelu and Manu, who cherish their final moments together in a local beauty parlour, engaging in drinking, napping, and playful arguments as they grapple with the end of a significant chapter in their lives.

The film is produced by Janhavi Asthana, who also co-writes and handles cinematography alongside Ranjan Singh and Kashyap. Singh takes on the role of producer, while Kashyap curates the project for the channel.

As reported, Ali and Kashyap's friendship dates back to their university days in Delhi, making this collaboration an intriguing blend of their distinct styles.

Imtiaz Ali reflected on the film's essence, stating, “The most remarkable moments in life are often quiet yet leave a lasting impact on our character. It’s these moments that lend Bobby Beauty Parlour its charm. It reminded me of my own hometown, my youthful choices, and the friends I’ve always held dear.”

Kashyap, who previously curated Incognito for the same YouTube channel, described Bobby Beauty Parlour as a “straightforward narrative, simply conveyed.” He emphasized its themes of friendship, dreams, and maturation, noting that producer Janhavi is also the co-writer and cinematographer. He expressed pride in Shashwat’s growth as a director, saying it feels deeply personal to him.

The short film features performances by Adrija Sinha, Parul Rana, Saksham Raj, and Preeti Kochar. It is set to premiere at midnight on August 6, exclusively on the Oh Short Flips YouTube channel.
