Emraan Hashmi Denies Casting as Mehmood in RD Burman Biopic
Clarification on Biopic Casting Rumors
Emraan Hashmi has refuted claims suggesting he would portray Mehmood in an upcoming biopic centered on the renowned music composer RD Burman. He stated that he has not been approached for this role.
On Monday, various reports indicated that Hashmi was set to play the iconic actor-producer in a film directed by Neeraj Pandey, with backing from Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment. This biopic is expected to delve into the close friendship and creative collaboration between Mehmood and Burman, and is currently in the pre-production phase, with filming anticipated to commence in September.
In response to the rumors, Hashmi took to X to clarify, stating, "To set the record straight, the news about me taking on the role of Mehmood saab in a biopic is false. I have not been approached for this project, nor am I involved in it."
Reports also suggest that Akshay Kumar is linked to the film, portraying Rajesh Khanna, who is his real-life father-in-law.
Hashmi's next project is Awarapan 2, a sequel to the 2007 musical thriller, which is set to hit theaters this Friday, coinciding with Sunny Deol's Partition drama Batwara 1947. The cast includes Shabana Azmi, Disha Patani, Suvinder Vicky, and Puran Gabbi.
