A New Take on Karna's Story

Sony LIV is set to unveil an innovative animated series titled The Legend of Karna, which offers a fresh interpretation of one of the Mahabharata's most iconic figures. Created by renowned animation experts Sharad Devarajan and Jeevan J. Kang, and produced by Graphic India, this series will be available for streaming starting July 31. It chronicles Karna's remarkable transformation from the son of a charioteer to a prominent figure in the royal courts of Hastinapura. Despite his extraordinary archery talents, Karna faces societal prejudice due to his origins, prompting him to defy conventions by participating in a tournament meant for the elite.

Bringing emotional resonance to the character, celebrated actor Anup Soni lends his voice to Karna. Reflecting on his connection to the character, Soni shared, “My earliest memory of Karna is from the Mahabharat, and what intrigues me is his duality as a formidable warrior and a man grappling with issues of identity and acceptance. As I matured, I recognized that Karna embodies not just valor but also deep emotional struggles and conflicts, making him one of the most compelling figures in our mythology.”

He further elaborated, “When I learned that The Legend of Karna would be told from his perspective, I was thrilled. Karna is a richly layered character; while he is celebrated as a great warrior, he also wrestles with profound questions about identity and fate. To me, he represents not just strength but also a deeply human journey filled with emotions and challenges, which makes him relatable even after millennia. Voicing such an iconic character was a unique opportunity, allowing me to express his pain, pride, and internal struggles through my performance. It was a truly rewarding creative experience.”

Joining Anup Soni in the voice cast are Shahid Zafar as Duryodhana, Bajrangbali Singh as Bheema, Ashok Lokhande as Shakuni, Dishi Duggal as Kunti, Shakti Singh as Bhishma, Samay Thakkar as Drona, Sumonto Roy as Dhritarashtra, Mayur Vyas as Vidura, Paritosh Sand as Adirath, Siddharth Awasthi as Yudhishthira, and Kumud Soney as Arjuna, among others.
