A Culinary Journey at Golden Dragon

Faridabad (Haryana) - June 13: There's something uniquely comforting about visiting a restaurant steeped in culinary tradition. Perhaps it's the excitement of discovering flavors that blend nostalgia with a contemporary twist.

This sentiment was palpable during my visit to the renowned Golden Dragon, now beautifully situated at the Taj Surajkund Resort & Spa in Delhi NCR. Let me share my experience and see if this establishment maintains its celebrated essence.

For those unfamiliar, Golden Dragon has been a hallmark of premium Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine in India since its inception in 1973 at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. Now, this legendary dining experience has made its way to the North, enveloped in the tranquil ambiance of Surajkund.

The Atmosphere:

Upon entering, the ambiance immediately captivates. The decor strikes a harmonious balance between traditional Oriental aesthetics and modern minimalism. Subtle gold accents and green highlights, adorned with delicate plum blossom motifs, create a serene environment. Notably, the walls showcase Guohua, a Chinese art form that intertwines painting, poetry, calligraphy, and seal engraving. As I admired pieces like Renwu Hua and Shadows of the Golden Dragon, it became clear that dining here would be more than just a meal; it promised an immersive cultural experience. For those seeking privacy, a private dining area with a stunning backdrop is also available.

Culinary Delights:

Under the guidance of Executive Chef Anuj Mathur and Chef Tong Sing Wah from Hong Kong, the kitchen focuses on authentic Chinese cuisine. While the menu isn't extensive, it features a thoughtfully curated selection of dim sum, wok-tossed dishes, aromatic soups, and an impressive tea program. The broths are perfectly balanced, showcasing exquisite steaming techniques. Standout dishes include Golden Fried Prawns, Song of the Dragon Chicken, Mushroom Cream Cheese Dumplings, and the much-loved Famous Three Flavour Noodles. Each main course reflects the chefs' dedication to flavor.

However, not every dish may appeal to all tastes; for instance, the popular Flaky Radish Dumplings didn't quite suit my palate. On the bright side, the vegetarian options were plentiful and delightful. Desserts like Mango Pudding and classic Darsaan are must-tries, offering a comforting balance of sweetness and flavor.

Final Thoughts:

Golden Dragon isn't merely replicating old recipes in Delhi NCR; instead, it aims to provide a refined dining experience that honors its heritage while feeling refreshingly new. Expect to spend around Rs 5,000 for two, which is reasonable for such an experience, especially with the impeccable service synonymous with Taj hotels.

If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for an afternoon or evening filled with exceptional Sichuan and Cantonese flavors, the Golden Dragon at Taj Surajkund Resort & Spa is definitely worth the visit.
