The Perfect Evening Snack

As the day winds down and it's time for a cup of evening tea, nothing beats the joy of pairing it with a hot, crispy snack. Bread rolls are a delightful choice, appealing to both kids and adults alike.

Why Bread Rolls?

These rolls are not only delicious but also incredibly simple to prepare, with ingredients that are typically found in your kitchen. Let’s dive into the step-by-step guide for crafting these crispy delights.

Ingredients Needed

**Ingredients**
Bread Slices: 8–10 (preferably white)
Boiled Potatoes: 4 medium (mashed)
Boiled Green Peas: 1/4 cup
Green Chilies: 2–3 (finely chopped)
Ginger: 1-inch piece (grated)
Fresh Coriander: finely chopped
Spices: 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, 1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala, 1 tsp dry mango powder (amchur), and salt to taste
Oil: for deep frying

Preparation Steps

**Preparation Method**
Begin by placing the boiled and mashed potatoes in a large bowl. Incorporate the boiled peas, chopped green chilies, grated ginger, fresh coriander, and all the spices, mixing well. Optionally, you can add grated paneer or finely chopped onions for extra flavor. Shape this mixture into small cylindrical rolls and set aside.

Next, trim the crusts off the bread slices using a knife. Prepare a plate with a bit of water. Lightly dip each bread slice into the water and remove it quickly. Squeeze the bread gently between your palms to eliminate excess moisture, ensuring it remains intact and soft.

Place the potato filling in the center of the moistened bread slice. Fold the edges over the filling to encase it completely. Press the bread into a smooth cylindrical shape, ensuring no filling is visible to prevent oil absorption during frying.

Allow the shaped rolls to rest for 10–15 minutes before frying. This step helps the bread dry slightly, resulting in crispier rolls.

Frying the Rolls

Heat oil in a deep pan or wok. Once hot, lower the flame to medium and carefully add 2–3 rolls at a time. Avoid flipping them immediately; let one side firm up first. Fry until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.

Once done, transfer the crispy bread rolls onto a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Serve them hot with spicy green chutney or tomato ketchup for a delightful snack experience.
