Delicious Sabudana Vada Recipe for Winter Snacking
Sabudana Vada Recipe
As winter arrives, many people start to change their eating habits. This season brings a desire for various dishes—some seek new breakfast ideas, while others crave a warm, crunchy snack to enjoy with evening tea. If you're aiming to whip up something special and tasty for your family this winter, why not try making *sabudana vada* (sago fritters)? These fritters are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and they are quite simple to make at home.
Making *sabudana vada* requires just a few ingredients. You will need *sabudana* (sago pearls), potatoes, onions, green chilies, garlic, fresh coriander, lemon juice, and some common spices. This dish is perfect for breakfast, as an evening snack, or even as a quick bite when hunger strikes. Let’s dive into the straightforward recipe.
Ingredients for Sabudana Vada
To prepare *sabudana vada*, gather *sabudana*, boiled potatoes, finely chopped onions, green chilies, garlic, fresh coriander, lemon juice, salt (to taste), *garam masala*, *chaat masala*, red chili powder, and *kitchen king masala*. You will also need oil for frying the *vadas*.
Preparing the Mixture for Sabudana Vada
Recipe expert Om Soni advises that you should buy the *sabudana* a day ahead and clean it thoroughly. Soak it in water to allow the pearls to swell properly, ensuring they don’t become too wet or mushy. The following morning, gently mix the soaked *sabudana* and set it aside. Boil the potatoes in a pressure cooker, and once cooled, peel and mash them well. In a large bowl, combine the soaked *sabudana* with the mashed potatoes. Then, add salt, garam masala, chaat masala, red chili powder, and 'Kitchen King' masala to the mixture.
Shaping the Vadas
After adding the spices, incorporate finely chopped onions, green chilies, garlic, and fresh coriander leaves into the mixture. A splash of lemon juice should also be added. Mix everything well to create the final mixture. Lightly oil your palms and divide the mixture into small portions. Shape each portion into *tikkis* (patties) or *vadas* by pressing them between your palms.
Frying the Sabudana Vadas
Heat oil in a pan (kadhai). Once the oil is hot, carefully place the prepared *vadas* in it and fry them over medium heat until they turn golden brown and crispy. After frying, remove the *vadas* from the pan and place them on a plate. Serve them with a chutney made from fresh coriander, green chilies, and tomatoes.
