Flax Seed Laddu Recipe

Flax seed laddus are a favorite treat, especially in winter, as they help ward off colds, coughs, and other seasonal ailments. Packed with calcium and iron, flax seeds contribute to stronger bones. Their high fiber content aids digestion and helps maintain stable blood sugar levels. Additionally, they promote healthy skin and hair. Let’s explore how to prepare these nutritious laddus and what nuts and dried fruits can enhance their flavor.

If flax seeds aren't available at home, they can be easily found in stores, typically priced between ₹90–100 per kilogram. Start with 250–300 grams of flax seeds, roasting them in a pan over low heat while stirring continuously. You'll know they're ready when they start to crackle, which usually takes about 7–8 minutes. Once roasted, let them sit for a few minutes before transferring them to a bowl. In the same pan, add 50 grams of oats and roast them until they are well done.

Oats are beneficial due to their fiber content, which helps regulate blood sugar and keeps the laddus light and easy to digest. Next, heat two tablespoons of ghee and lightly roast 40 grams of almonds, 15 grams of walnuts, and 30 grams of cashews. Set these aside in a bowl. Then, roast 20 grams of makhana (fox nuts) in the remaining ghee to utilize any leftover fat in the pan.

Now, take 20 grams of desiccated coconut and roast it over low heat until it turns golden brown. After that, grind the roasted flax seeds in a mixer until fine. Add the roasted nuts to the mixer and pulse until coarsely ground. Combine all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl or tray.

Next, incorporate half a teaspoon each of dried ginger powder, cardamom powder, black pepper powder, and cinnamon powder. Cinnamon is particularly helpful for alleviating coughs and sore throats during seasonal transitions. Mix everything thoroughly. For sweetness, add 200 grams of jaggery powder, adjusting to your taste.

To bind the laddus, heat half a cup of ghee in a frying pan. Once hot, pour it into the mixture and mix well. While the mixture is still warm, shape it into laddus. Your flax seed laddus, enriched with five different spices, are now ready to enjoy. They can be stored and are a healthy addition to your breakfast.
