Dalima Chhibber Joins Nova Sports

Dalima Chhibber, a prominent player in the Indian national football team, has been appointed as the Football Culture & Player Pathways Lead at Nova Sports. In this new position, she will play an integral role in shaping the Nova Football Pathway, focusing on the development of the academy's curriculum and operational processes. Chhibber will also mentor athletes and act as a liaison for players, coaches, and parents, while representing the Nova Sports brand both on and off the field. Her responsibilities will extend to enhancing the broader football ecosystem, particularly in onboarding and training coaches, with an emphasis on nurturing female coaches. Dalima aims to establish robust systems that support athletes at various stages of their development, thereby setting a strong foundation for women's football in India.

Dalima Chhibber's Insights on Her New Role

Reflecting on her new partnership with Nova Sports, Dalima expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "As players, especially women in football, we have long sought more structure and support for the sport's growth. The initiative taken by Capri Sports is truly inspiring. Women's football holds immense potential, and I am thrilled to contribute to building that pathway. It's remarkable to see people committed to supporting the sport from grassroots to elite levels."

She further elaborated, "I look forward to leveraging my experience as a player and sports psychologist, along with my international exposure, to help shape the Nova Sports program and its football curriculum. Developing an athlete encompasses more than just teaching them to kick a ball; it involves a holistic approach that includes mental and physical aspects, proper guidance, nutrition, and support. My role also entails creating a pathway that inspires young girls to envision a professional future in football, dream big, and ultimately aspire to join the national team."

Impact of Grassroots Initiatives

Dalima's appointment follows the successful conclusion of the inaugural SuperNova Football Championship (SNFC) in Bengaluru, marking a significant on-ground initiative for Nova Sports. This two-day, 7-a-side championship brought together schools from across Bengaluru, providing young girls with a platform to compete, showcase their talents, and experience football in a matchday setting.

As a special guest at the championship, Dalima remarked, "When I began my journey in football, events like this were nonexistent. This championship stands out as one of the largest gatherings for women's football at the grassroots level in India. Witnessing so many young girls from various age groups and schools come together to display their skills has been a remarkable experience, especially since I didn't have such opportunities growing up. We aim to address the gaps in structure, facilities, accessibility, and overall support needed to nurture athletes through Nova Sports—not just by teaching girls to kick a ball, but by fostering their development as players and individuals."

Enhancing the Vision for Women's Football

Dalima Chhibber's collaboration with Nova Sports significantly enriches the initiative, bringing the insights and credibility of an accomplished Indian footballer to its long-term vision. Her experience at the highest levels of the sport, coupled with her understanding of the challenges and opportunities in women's football, will bolster Nova Sports' mission to create a meaningful and credible pathway for young girls. Having a player of Dalima's caliber involved from the outset provides young athletes with a role model and mentor to guide them on their football journeys.
