Steps for the Ritual
Begin your day by waking up before dawn, taking a bath, and dressing in clean attire. Make a commitment to observe the fast while holding water and meditate on Lord Ganesha. Set a red cloth on a platform and place an idol of Ganesha upon it. Bathe the idol with water from the Ganges.
Present offerings of Akshat (rice flour), flowers, sandalwood, and incense sticks. Ganesha has a fondness for Durva grass, so ensure to offer him 21 bundles of it. Recite or listen to the story associated with the Sankashti Chaturthi fast. Conclude the ritual with an aarti using camphor. The fast is deemed complete only after offering water to the moon. When the moon appears at night, offer water, milk, and unbroken rice grains. Finally, express apologies for any errors made during the puja.
