The Importance of Janmashtami in Sanatan Dharma

Janmashtami is a festival of great importance within Sanatan Dharma, celebrated nationwide with fervor and devotion. Temples are adorned with special prayers and rituals, where Lord Krishna is bathed ceremonially with *Panchamrit*, a blend of five sacred ingredients. The midnight hour, marking His birth, is filled with *Aarti* and *Bhajan-Kirtan*, traditional devotional songs. This year, the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami falls on September 4. Devotees believe that honoring Lord Krishna and engaging in specific rituals on this day brings joy, prosperity, and divine blessings.

Celestial Alignments and Their Significance

Pandit Kalki Ram, an astrologer from Ayodhya, notes that a unique celestial alignment coincides with this Janmashtami, reminiscent of the conditions present at Lord Krishna's birth. During that time, the *Rohini Nakshatra* was prominent, and the Moon was in the *Vrishabha Rashi* (Taurus). This year, a similar alignment is anticipated, along with the formation of *Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga*. According to Pandit Kalki Ram, sincere worship of Lord Krishna on this day can lead to the blessings of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu.

Rituals to Follow on Janmashtami

Pandit Kalki Ram recommends that devotees place an image or idol of *Laddu Gopal* in their worship area at sunset on Janmashtami. Following this, a yellow cloth should be spread, and the deity should be bathed ceremonially with *Panchamrit*. During the worship, chanting the *Mahamantra*—"Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare"—is encouraged. Alternatively, the mantra "Kleem Krishnaya Namah" can be recited. Given that Lord Krishna is believed to have been born at midnight, performing worship at 12:00 AM is particularly significant. At this time, it is suggested to light a *ghee* lamp and offer items such as a cucumber (with the stalk intact), *Makhan-Mishri* (butter and rock sugar), and a flute to Lord Krishna.

These offerings are deeply associated with Lord Krishna. By engaging in worship with genuine devotion and following the prescribed rituals, devotees can receive Lord Krishna's blessings. However, it is essential to view these practices as expressions of faith.
