Understanding Holi Bhai Dooj

The festival of Holi Bhai Dooj, which occurs after Holi, represents the cherished relationship between siblings. This year, the celebration of Holi Bhai Dooj will take place on March 5th, also referred to as Bhatri Dwitiya. According to legend, on this day, Yamuna prepared a meal for her brother Yamraj after applying a tilak on his forehead. In gratitude, Yamraj blessed his sisters with joy and prosperity, while granting his brothers longevity. In this article, we will delve into the auspicious timings for Holi Bhai Dooj and the proper procedure for applying the tilak.

Auspicious Timing

Shubh Muhurat
The Abhijit Muhurat is set from 12:09 PM to 12:56 PM. Additionally, the Amrit Kaal will occur from 3:11 AM to 4:52 AM on March 6th. This is the ideal time to apply tilak on your brother.

Tilak Application Method

Tilak Method (Holi Bhai Dooj 2026 Tilak Vidhi)
Begin by creating a small square using flour or rangoli in the northeast corner of your home or at the worship area.
Have your brother sit in a clean spot.
When applying the tilak, ensure your brother faces north or northeast (Ishan corner), while the sister should face west.
Prepare a plate with roli, rice grains, a sacred thread, a dry coconut shell, sweets, and a lamp.
Apply the tilak on your brother's forehead and sprinkle rice grains over it.
While doing this, pray for his long life.
Tie a sacred thread around his wrist and place the dry coconut shell in his hand, symbolizing his protection.
Light a lamp, perform aarti for your brother, and offer him sweets.
