Devotees are deeply engaged in the worship of Goddess Katyayani, a significant aspect of this celebration. Homes and temples are adorned with beautiful decorations of flowers and lamps, creating a festive atmosphere. Children enthusiastically participate in the rituals alongside their mothers, eager to receive blessings from the Mother Goddess. Goddess Katyayani is revered as the sixth form of Mother Durga.



It is believed that her divine blessings help alleviate fear, sorrow, and illness. On this day, wearing yellow is considered particularly auspicious, and devotees present offerings such as a ghee lamp, *Roli* (vermilion), *Akshat* (sacred rice), and yellow flowers to the Goddess.

The early morning hours are deemed the most favorable for the sixth day's worship.
1. Bathing and Cleansing: Rise early, take a bath, and don clean attire. Purify the worship area with *Gangajal* (holy water from the Ganges).


2. Idol Installation: Place an idol or image of Goddess Katyayani in your home or temple.


3. Worship Offerings: Light a ghee lamp and present *Roli*, *Akshat*, and yellow flowers.


4. Offering of *Bhog*: Present *Bhog* (sacred food offering)—preferably honey or *Kheer* (sweet rice pudding) made with honey—to the Goddess.


5. Mantra Chanting and *Aarti*: Recite the mantras dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, and conclude the ritual with *Aarti* (the ceremonial waving of lamps) and distribute the *Prasad* (blessed food).


Children often contribute by offering flowers and sweets, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of the home.

According to legend, the sage Maharishi Katyayan performed intense penance, and pleased by his devotion, Mother Jagdamba (the Universal Mother) chose to be born as his daughter. This daughter became known as Mother Katyayani. She is celebrated for defeating the demon Mahishasura, thus liberating the gods; hence, she is also called *Mahishasuramardini* (the Slayer of Mahishasura). Worshipping Mother Katyayani is believed to bring joy, peace, and prosperity to households. On this day, devotees seek her protection for their families and invite positive energy into their lives.
