Exciting Conclusion for NIFFA 2026
The much-acclaimed film 'Bandar,' featuring Bobby Deol, is set to wrap up the 2026 edition of the National Indian Film Festival of Australia (NIFFA). Directed by Anurag Kashyap, this gripping thriller has been chosen as the festival's closing film in Melbourne.
This announcement comes as NIFFA continues its tour across various Australian cities, with Melbourne hosting the final segment before the festival concludes in Hobart, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane.
Recognized as one of the largest showcases of Indian cinema outside of India, the festival has successfully brought together a diverse array of modern films, restored classics, and insightful industry discussions.
'Bandar,' which features Bobby Deol alongside Sanya Malhotra, has garnered significant attention since its release on June 5, thanks to its unique storytelling and strong performances.
The cast also includes notable actors such as Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Raj B Shetty, Jitendra Joshi, Riddhi Sen, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Nagesh Bhonsle in pivotal roles.
The Melbourne segment will showcase restored classics like Shyam Benegal's 'Manthan' in 4K and the 1989 cult favorite 'In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones,' in partnership with the Film Heritage Foundation India. Additionally, Australia's national screen museum, ACMI, has joined as a cultural partner for the festival.
This year's festival has journeyed through nine Australian cities, including Sydney, Perth, Alice Springs, and Broken Hill, underscoring the growing global presence of Indian cinema.
Written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, known for their contributions to projects like 'Paatal Lok,' 'Kohrra,' and 'Udta Punjab,' 'Bandar' promises to leave a lasting impression.
