Celebrating National Sports Day with a Cyclothon
Puri (Odisha) - On August 31, BJP MP Sambit Patra participated in a cyclothon in Puri, Odisha, as part of the National Sports Day festivities. This event saw enthusiastic involvement from the community, aiming to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
Patra stated, “Following Prime Minister Modi's initiative, the 'Khelo India' and 'Fit India' programs commenced on August 29, coinciding with National Sports Day. We have also launched this initiative in Puri.”
He continued, “Today, numerous individuals are joining the 'Sundays on Cycle' initiative, promoting the message that we should all prioritize fitness and advance India's health.”
National Sports Day, observed every year on August 29, highlights the significance of sports and physical activities while honoring the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand in Indian hockey.
Since its launch, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative has engaged over seven lakh people across more than 40,000 locations throughout the country.
Initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, the Fit India movement aims to integrate fitness into the daily lives of Indian citizens. The goal is to inspire behavioral changes towards a more active lifestyle.
The Fit India movement seeks to implement various initiatives and organize events that promote fitness in an enjoyable, accessible manner.
Additionally, it encourages the promotion of indigenous sports and aims to spread the fitness message to schools, colleges, and universities across the nation.
