Raising Awareness on Education Access

Actor and singer Ayushmann Khurrana, who serves as a National Ambassador for UNICEF India, has expressed serious concerns regarding children's access to education and their safety. This follows a visit to a village in Jalna district, Maharashtra, where local girls presented him with letters highlighting how inadequate road conditions contribute to school dropouts.

During his visit, which was part of a UNICEF-supported initiative, Khurrana listened to the girls' worries about the dangers they face while traveling to school, particularly for female students.

He took the initiative to deliver their letters directly to the District Collector and engaged in discussions with local officials about the pressing issue.

One young girl shared her letter, explaining that the unsafe road conditions often compel children, especially girls, to abandon their education. Khurrana expressed hope that the authorities would take action on this matter, stating, "We personally handed those letters to the District Collector today, and I believe they will address the issue; we also discussed it with them."

Khurrana emphasized the importance of focusing on rural development and the welfare of future generations, stating, "The message to society is that we must be more conscious of our efforts regarding future generations. Seventy percent of India lives in villages, and if our villages do not flourish, how can our country progress?"

This visit marked Khurrana's inaugural rural field experience with UNICEF. Although he has previously participated in UNICEF campaigns in urban areas like Delhi and Mumbai, this was his first encounter with the organization's grassroots efforts.

He remarked, "This is my first rural field visit. I have participated in many UNICEF campaigns in Delhi, Mumbai, and at the Women’s World Cup, but this is the first time I have experienced UNICEF's grassroots operations firsthand. I look forward to continuing this work in the future."

The primary focus of the visit was to enhance rural infrastructure, ensure child safety, and support children, particularly girls, in pursuing their education without facing barriers due to unsafe travel conditions.

On the cinematic front, Khurrana was recently featured in 'Pati Patni Aur Woh Do' and is set to appear in Sooraj Barjatya's 'Ye Prem Mol Lia' alongside Sharvari. Additionally, he has 'Udta Teer' in the works, co-starring Sara Ali Khan, which is scheduled for release on October 9 under Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.
