White House Faces Backlash Over MAGA-Themed Drake Album Edit

The White House has stirred controversy by sharing a MAGA-themed edit of Drake's Iceman album cover on social media. This move has drawn criticism from users questioning the appropriateness of using the rapper's imagery for political messaging. Despite the post, Drake has not publicly supported Trump or the MAGA movement, having criticized the former president in the past. The incident coincides with Drake's surprise release of multiple projects, including Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honor. The backlash highlights ongoing tensions between politics and celebrity culture.

Controversial Social Media Post

The White House has ignited a new debate after posting a MAGA-themed alteration of Drake's recently launched Iceman album cover on its official social media account on Friday. The original cover, which debuted on May 15, showcases a hand adorned with a crystal-studded glove, fingers pinched together. However, the White House modified the image to feature a prominent diamond-encrusted pendant inscribed with “MAGA,” an acronym for “Make America Great Again,” closely associated with former President Donald Trump and his administration. The White House captioned the post on X, previously known as Twitter, with the phrase “ICED OUT.”

The post quickly attracted criticism, with users on social media questioning the appropriateness of the administration utilizing the rapper's imagery for political purposes. One user remarked, “Drake just can't be happy with this,” while another humorously anticipated a potential diss track from Drake aimed at Trump. Many also expressed skepticism about the authenticity of the post coming from the official White House account. This controversy coincides with a significant release day for Drake, who surprised his audience by unveiling not just Iceman but also two other projects, Habibti and Maid of Honor.

Is Drake a Trump Supporter?

Despite the White House's MAGA-themed post, Drake has not shown any public support for Trump or the MAGA movement in recent years. In fact, during a concert in London in 2017, the rapper openly criticized Trump. While on his Boy Meets World Tour, Drake addressed the political divide in the U.S., stating, “If you think one man can tear this world apart, you’re out of your motherf–king mind.” He further directed a message at Trump, saying, “F–k that man.” The Trump administration has previously faced criticism for incorporating music and celebrity imagery into political messaging, with artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo publicly denouncing the use of their songs in immigration-related content.
