US Introduces Premium Visa Service for Faster Processing

The U.S. State Department is set to introduce a premium expedited visa service allowing applicants to secure interview appointments within 10 days for a fee of $750. This pilot program, running from July 1 to December 31, aims to address delays caused by previous immigration policies. While it offers quicker access to interviews, it does not guarantee visa approval. The specific embassies participating in this program will be announced soon, and the initiative may be extended based on demand. This move reflects an effort to streamline the visa application process amidst ongoing challenges.

New Visa Program Announcement

The U.S. State Department has announced a new expedited service for international travelers seeking business or tourist visas. This premium service will cost applicants an additional $750, in addition to the standard application fee of $185. A notice detailing this pilot program will be published in the Federal Register this week, allowing applicants to pay the fee to secure an interview appointment within 10 days at select U.S. embassies and consulates.

Program Launch Timeline

According to internal documents and a State Department official, the pilot program is set to run from July 1 to December 31. The specific embassies and consulates offering this expedited service will be disclosed prior to the program's launch. Depending on demand, there is a possibility for the program to be extended beyond the initial end date.

Motivation Behind the New Visa Initiative

This initiative appears to be a response to the stricter immigration policies implemented during the Trump administration, which made it more challenging for foreigners to enter the U.S. The previous administration enforced stringent measures, including high bond requirements for visa processing in certain African nations and extensive vetting of personal histories, including social media accounts. These policies have led to significant delays in visa processing globally, with applicants from non-Visa Waiver countries facing wait times that can extend for several months. However, it is important to note that paying for this premium service does not guarantee visa approval.
