Final Stages of US-India Trade Negotiations

Washington: According to US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, the trade agreement between the United States and India is nearing its conclusion, with only the final one percent of negotiations remaining. This announcement was made during his address at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit.

Gor expressed optimism about finalizing the deal, which has been in the works for nearly 18 months, emphasizing its potential benefits for both countries.

"We are in the concluding stages of this agreement. Most aspects have been finalized, with just a few items pending from both sides. We are now addressing the last one percent of the deal," he stated.

The ambassador highlighted the strong bilateral relationship, attributing part of its success to the personal rapport between US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"People often wonder why this process has taken so long. We've been negotiating for a year and a half, but considering our 20 years of trade history, I believe we are on the right track. Once we finalize this, we will be in a strong position, and I am committed to bringing this to a successful conclusion," Gor added.

He also mentioned that President Trump cherishes memories from his previous visit to India, which he often reminisces about fondly.

"His last visit was remarkable, and he holds it in high regard. I look forward to welcoming him back to India," Gor remarked.

Additionally, the ambassador announced that the Quad foreign ministers are set to convene in the Philippines in approximately two weeks.
