Diplomatic Efforts in Washington

Washington: This week, the United States is facilitating discussions between officials from Israel and Lebanon in an effort to strengthen the ceasefire and promote a more extensive initiative aimed at achieving enduring peace and security between the two nations.

Leading the talks for the US are State Department Counselor Dan Holler and Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Dan Zimmerman, according to the State Department.

A State Department representative stated, "Counselor Holler is initiating discussions alongside ASW Zimmerman, starting with a joint military and political session, followed by a military meeting, and concluding with a political round."

The format will consist of an initial joint military-political session, a focused military discussion, and a final political dialogue.

"Our common objective is to permanently end the cycle of violence," the representative emphasized.

"We are facilitating negotiations between Israel and Lebanon as two independent states to establish peace and security."

The discussions aim to create momentum towards a more comprehensive agreement between the neighboring countries.

"These talks will further the advancement of a thorough peace and security pact between the two nations. More details will be shared soon," the official added.

In a related development, a US official revealed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had conversations with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Friday, prior to the meetings in Washington.

"Secretary Rubio discussed with both leaders the importance of solidifying the ceasefire and future negotiations," the official noted.

These discussions have prompted additional US initiatives to monitor the situation in Lebanon.

"Following those calls, the US has established a monitoring mechanism through CENTCOM to ensure our policymakers receive real-time and accurate updates regarding the conflict in Lebanon," the official stated.

It was confirmed that representatives from Israel and Lebanon would remain in Washington for several days as negotiations progress.

"Israeli and Lebanese officials will be in DC for three days this week to continue their discussions," the official mentioned.

These meetings signify a renewed diplomatic effort by the US to avert a resurgence of large-scale conflict along the Israel-Lebanon border and to reinforce existing ceasefire agreements.
