US Conducts Airstrikes on Iranian Targets Following Maritime Incident

The US Central Command has released footage of airstrikes against Iranian military targets following an attack on the M/V Ever Lovely cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. This military action is a response to Iran's alleged aggression, which has escalated tensions in the region. In retaliation, Iran's IRGC Navy has targeted US positions, highlighting the ongoing conflict despite recent agreements to halt hostilities. The situation remains critical as both nations navigate the complexities of their military engagements.

US Airstrikes in Response to Iranian Aggression

On Friday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) released a brief 37-second video showcasing American military strikes against Iranian positions. This action was described as a direct response to an attack by Tehran on a commercial cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes occurred shortly after Iran reportedly targeted the Singapore-flagged M/V Ever Lovely with a drone as it was leaving the Strait of Hormuz near the Omani coast.

CENTCOM characterized the assault on the cargo ship as "unwarranted aggression," which not only breached a ceasefire but also jeopardized navigation through a vital maritime trade route. The statement detailed that US aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar installations, following the drone strike on June 25.

Furthermore, CENTCOM emphasized its ongoing efforts to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the US military remains vigilant to uphold all agreements with Iran.

The released footage depicted precise strikes, although specific operational details and target locations were not disclosed.

Iran Responds to US Strikes

In retaliation to the US airstrikes targeting Iranian military sites, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy declared that it had struck US military positions in the region, as reported by a local news agency. Ebrahim Azizi, a member of Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly, criticized the US for failing to adhere to a ceasefire, stating that the blame game is no longer effective.

In a post on social media platform X, Azizi remarked, "The U.S. attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations once again. The failed U.S. President has shown he has no commitment to the principles of negotiation or a ceasefire. This reckless violation of the ceasefire will, as always, lead to retreat and regret on their part. The blame game does not work anymore." This latest exchange of hostilities comes just days after an agreement was reached between Washington and Tehran to cease military confrontations.
