Trump's Controversial AI Image Sparks Outrage Among Conservatives
Backlash Over AI-Generated Image
A recent post by former President Donald Trump on his Truth Social account, featuring an AI-generated image of him resembling a Christ-like figure, has been taken down following significant criticism from conservative and religious commentators. Many prominent right-wing Christian figures accused him of blasphemy due to the portrayal. The image depicted Trump in a flowing white robe and red sash, with a glowing hand placed on a man in a hospital bed, reminiscent of traditional depictions of Jesus Christ. Additionally, the scene included patriotic elements such as the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, an eagle, fireworks, and fighter jets.
This post emerged shortly after Trump publicly criticized Pope Leo XIV, labeling him as 'WEAK' on crime and 'terrible' regarding foreign policy in a post made on Sunday night. The controversial image remained visible for over 12 hours before it was removed on Monday.
While speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump defended the image, claiming it was misinterpreted. He stated, 'I did post it and I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do with Red Cross. It’s supposed to be me as a doctor, making people better. And I do make people better. I make people a lot better.'
When pressed about whether he had shared an image of himself as Jesus, Trump refuted the claim but acknowledged posting the image. He remarked, 'It wasn’t a depiction… only the fake news could come up with that one,' and declined to apologize to the Pope, asserting that the Pope had made incorrect statements.
The backlash was immediate, with many within the MAGA community expressing their disapproval. Christian activist Sean Feucht urged for the post's immediate removal, stating, 'There’s no context where this is acceptable.' Commentator Riley Gaines remarked, 'God shall not be mocked,' while Brilyn Hollyhand labeled the post as 'gross blasphemy,' emphasizing that 'Faith is not a prop.' Other critics, including Jon Root, Isabel Brown, Michael Knowles, and Megan Basham, condemned the image as 'blasphemous,' 'disgusting,' and 'unacceptable,' with calls for Trump to retract the post and seek forgiveness. This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between Trump and certain factions of his conservative religious supporters, even as he seeks to maintain their backing.
