Trump Proposes Tolls for Safe Passage Through Strait of Hormuz Amid Iran Conflict

In a recent statement, President Trump proposed that the United States might charge tolls for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz following the conflict with Iran. He asserted that the US has achieved victory and could exercise military control over this vital waterway. Trump claimed that Iran could be incapacitated swiftly and urged negotiations for free oil movement. He set a deadline for Iran to comply, warning of severe consequences if they fail to act. The ongoing blockade by the IRGC has already triggered a global energy crisis, raising concerns about the implications of military action in the region.

Trump's Bold Statement on Strait of Hormuz

Washington DC: On Monday, President Donald Trump suggested that the United States might impose charges for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz following the conclusion of the ongoing conflict with Iran. He emphasized that the US has emerged victorious, which could allow for direct military oversight of this crucial maritime route, responsible for transporting a significant portion of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Trump remarked, "What about us charging tolls? I’d rather do that than let them have them. Why shouldn’t we? We’re the winner. We won," in response to inquiries about Iran's potential fees for ships navigating the strait. He reiterated that Iran's military has been defeated.

During a press briefing at the Oval Office, Trump claimed that Iran could be incapacitated "in one night," suggesting that a comprehensive military strategy could dismantle key Iranian infrastructure swiftly. He stated, "We have a plan, because of the power of our military, where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o'clock tomorrow (Tuesday) night," indicating a timeline for potential military action.

Trump urged Iran to negotiate with the US and allow free passage through the Strait of Hormuz by 8 PM Eastern Time on Tuesday. When confronted about the implications of targeting Iranian infrastructure, he dismissed concerns about possible war crimes, asserting that Iranians desire more aggressive actions for their freedom.

Previously, Trump had set a "final deadline" for Iran, warning that failure to comply would result in severe consequences. He indicated that if the blockade persists, the US would take decisive action against Iranian facilities, stating, "If they don't do something by Tuesday evening, they won't have any power plants, and they won't have any bridges standing." The Strait of Hormuz has faced significant disruptions due to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) since the onset of the conflict in late February, leading to a global energy crisis.
